Ashes tout barred for five years November 17, 2008 Web User
Six tickets for the first Ashes Test have been declared invalid and a man has been barred from buying international cricket match tickets for five years after trying to sell them in an internet auction.
The tickets were for the first Test of the series, to be played over five days at Swalec Stadium, Cardiff in July 2009. It will be the first time a Test match has ever been played in Cardiff.
Glamorgan County Cricket Club took the action to void the tickets after they surfaced for sale online.
"We believe by setting the standard of a 'zero tolerance' to individuals breaking the terms and conditions and selling on their tickets," said operations director Simon Lee.
"We will help squeeze ticket touts out of business and protect the genuine fans wishing to come to the game," he added.
The number of tickets individuals could purchase was limited to prevent bulk buying by touts. The first batch of tickets went on sale earlier this month and sold out in two hours.
Glamorgan County Cricket Club received 2.5 million hits on its website and similar interest is expected when a second lot is put on sale early in the new year.
Glamorgan CCC is advising fans who have bought tickets but cannot attend the England v Australia Test Series to contact Swalec Stadium and not to try and sell them on.
