Virgin Media has shown off the modem that will be used for the 50Mbps service that it plans to launch in the next few weeks.

The first official pictures of the modem show it to have a sleek, black design.

The 50Mbps product is scheduled to launch some time in the final quarter of 2008, though the release of these pictures suggests it could be sooner rather than later.

However, a precise date and pricing for the 50Mbps service have not yet been announced.
