Palin beats Obama in auction

Web User: Palin beats Obama in internet auction Alaska Governor Sarah Palin may have lost in her bid to become the Republican vice president but she did win one event this week, a Cabbage Patch Doll lookalike internet auction.

Of the four one-of-kind Cabbage Patch Dolls crafted to look like the presidential and vice presidential candidates, Palin's was bought for $19,000 (about £12,000) in the charity auction.

The Obama, McCain and Biden dolls only earned offers of $8,400, $6,000 and $3,500 respectively.

Since Barack Obama was confirmed president elect, the web has exploded with comments, pictures, video and tweets as America and the world celebrates the historic achievement.

Video-sharing website YouTube is awash with scenes of joy and excitement as jubilant Americans upload celebratory scenes from bars, streets, homes and halls all over the country.

In South Kensington in London, one man could not contain his excitement and streaked in front of the camera shouting "Go Obama" during a live GMTV broadcast.

Students at Navarro College in Texas posted a video of themselves jumping up and down and screaming to celebrate Obama's win.

CNN has compiled a special video slideshow of Obama's historic speech in his home city of Chicago.

Twitter, the micro-blogging site also played a big part in this year's election.

Both candidates embraced Twittering and thousands of voters tweeted 140-characters-or-less dispatches from the polling station, rallies and subsequent parties.

Non-partisan site TwitterVoteReport.com aggregated tweets to monitor polling station and estimate voting waiting times.
