Virgin cuts mobile broadband price November 3, 2008 Web User
Virgin Media has launched a low-cost bundled 3G mobile broadband package, which it claims is the cheapest deal on offer in the UK.
Virgin is new to the mobile broadband market, having only begun offering 'dongles' in October.
It runs its packages over T-Mobile's UK 3G network. According to Virgin it offers speeds of up to to 3.6Mbps, depending on signal strength.
However, you'll have to a be a new or existing customer of Virgin Media's broadband services to get the £5-per-month deal.
A 1GB USB modem comes with the package for a one-off cost of £25 with a data allowance of 1GB per month; monthly usage over the 1GB is charged at 1.46 pence per MB.
"Our 1GB mobile broadband is great for people who need home broadband but also want access to the internet on the move," said Graeme Oxby of Virgin Media.
"It offers the safety net of considerably cheaper rates if customers go over the monthly data allowance," he added.
The ISP is also offering a £10-per-month mobile broadband deal to those subscribing to its 'M' cable broadband package, the ADSL 'Bundle 2' (Up to 8Mbps Unlimited Broadband and Talk Evenings and Weekends) product, or the company's basic ADSL up to 8Mbps Unlimited Broadband service.
BT is currently offering a free mobile broadband dongle to existing business customers.
