Datz Music Lounge launches October 30, 2008 Web User
A new music service is offering unlimited DRM-free digital downloads for an upfront fee of £100.
Datz Music Lounge is offering tracks from EMI and Warner Music free from anti-piracy protection to anyone who pays the one-off fee.
You can download as much as you want within one year and the music is yours to keep forever.
However, two of the major music labels - Universal and Sony BMG - are not yet signed up to the deal.
You will need to order the service through the Datz website. Within 14 days, a USB dongle will be delivered to you.
After downloading the Datz application, you will be able to download as much music as you want.
However, as yet Datz is not compatible with Macs.
One analyst warned that this service wasn't a magic bullet to deal with the problem of copyright infringement.
Mark Mulligan of Jupiter Research said: "One thing to be clear about though, this is not a tool to fight piracy."
He also said that the offer was unlikely to appeal to younger music fans.
"A hundred pounds upfront might work for younger demographics if there's a device involved but is not going to hit the mark for a music service. For this price point it's going to be hitting older, higher spending music aficionados," Mulligan said.
